A former soldier, Julio Ponte’s first-class Engineering Masters from the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ has changed his life.
However, it would not have been possible without the university’s widening participation programme which allowed Julio to study for a four-year extended degree despite lacking the required qualifications for entry.
Here, he studied with Dr Bob Jenner, Principal Lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering & Science at the university’s Medway campus.
Dr Jenner praised his dedication: “Julio’s excellent Masters project researched the movement and control of particles on a pneumatic conveyor – research conducted with our world-recognised Wolfson Centre at Medway. He is very intelligent and works really hard – his work ethic is faultless.”
Julio went on to win an award for outstanding academic achievement in his Masters project from the Institute of Measurement & Control (InstMC).
After graduating, Julio landed an accelerated graduate post within the oil and gas industry.
He has worked on the design and construction of a gas plant in Egypt for which he has already being presented with a Quality Medal for his contribution to the company.
The success he first experienced at Greenwich looks set to follow Julio into a long career in his sector.
