The Generator is excited to publish our second annual Impact Report, which summarises our achievements, milestones, and success stories from the academic year 2023-24. This year we engaged more students than ever before and were awarded for our efforts by winning Education Leader of the Year at the 2023 Foundervine Awards. Over the past year, we’ve hosted 34 events including 8 hackathons, an Accelerator, a Maker’s Market, a Speed Networking event and a brand-new Debate Club.

Young people in 2024 are more engaged than ever in enterprise and are actively seeking opportunities to learn and develop their skills.  According to AXA UK’s “The Startup Angel Report 2024,” 6 in 10 young adults plan to be their own boss by the age of 30, with many already taking steps towards starting their own business. With a record number of students applying for the Enterprise Challenge and exciting hack partners including Amazon Web Services and The Met Police, it’s been an incredible year for team Generator.

Beyond the numbers, it’s the individual stories that really stand out to demonstrate our impact. It’s the team of students who were selected to present their solutions to senior executives at Amazon, after impressing staff so much at the Amazon Web Services hackathon. It’s our 2023 Enterprise Challenge winner Danielle Bodjo, who gave birth to her second child during the final year of her business degree, yet still managed to continue her studies, while taking part in a Santander Universities enterprise programme, beating hundreds of students internationally to win a place on their crowdfunding campaign this summer, which will help her to fund her African-print inspired fashion brand. It’s students like Ishan Thakkar, a repeat participant of Generator events, who has secured a summer internship at PWC after meeting a mentor from the company at #GreHacks, and putting the skills he’d developed to good use in securing a placement there.
