Food and Beverages Trainer, Champneys

My experiences at university helped me to realise my potential and to help others realise theirs too.

Memories of Greenwich

I didn’t think I’d get a graduation day due to the pandemic, so this photo represents the joy I had at celebrating the completion of my degree. I was able to celebrate with my family and see friends that I hadn’t for a while.

I fondly remember one my lecturers, Samer, who taught biochemistry in my first year, as he always had a story to tell that got everyone laughing. The stories added a lighter side to the lectures and helped to keep us motivated.

I used to spend a lot of time in the café at Pembroke building on the Medway campus. It was always nice to spend time there as the staff were extremely friendly and I could get a hot chocolate and get some work done at the same time!

Life after Greenwich

I work as a Food and Beverages Trainer which enables me to pass on my knowledge of the hospitality industry to our new starters at Champneys Eastwell Manor.

I train new members of staff in my team. This means on their first day I will provide their uniform and go through in detail the health and safety requirements of the job. I explain our processes, show them where everything is and explain each job role and responsibility in each area. I encourage improvement and recognise when people go the extra mile in their work to see if I could find an area of work they are best suited to meet their individual needs and requirements.

Particular skills that I developed at university which have helped include email writing, confidence in public speaking, coping with stress, how to communicate with different stakeholders, and how to be understanding towards different people in different situations.

My future plans are to progress in my role and continue helping people to make better health choices while expanding my own knowledge in nutrition.
