Senior Advisor - Strategy and System Transformation, NHS England & Improvement

Juggling full-time studies, work, and family life as a mature student was extremely difficult. Despite the challenges, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Greenwich.

Memories of Greenwich

Gaining public health knowledge and intervening to improve population health, as well as classroom debates and bunters with classmates, are some of the fond memories I still hold dear.

I chose public health because the course outcome aligns with my values - I am passionate about helping others, and my long-term goal is to participate in Global Health programmes. I really enjoyed the course, especially the sections on global health, policy, and understanding how politics influences policymaking.

Before starting the public health course, I was already working for the NHS, so studying the theory allowed me to marry my experience and theory, which is extremely beneficial because it enables you to understand why things are done a certain way in the workplace, such as politics, influence, leadership, and so on.

Life after Greenwich

My Snapshot represents the journey and progress I have made since graduating 12 years ago.

I worked for the NHS before embarking on my studies at Greenwich, so I've continued the journey to improve services for our community. I have been privileged to secure a scholarship to study an MSc in Major Programme Management at the University of Oxford, where I'm currently in the first year of a two-year programme.

Two of my favourite quotes that I live by:

"Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever give up!” - Winston Churchill

"People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel." - Maya Angelou

So when the road gets rough and hard as you leave the university, my advice is to keep going. Never lose hope! As you embark on your working journey, especially in leadership roles, ensure you leave people feeling good about themselves, not the other way around - empower people!
