It is the people that make memories great, and I was fortunate to have a positive university experience. Studying at Greenwich was a good way to end my main education journey and mark the beginning of my professional career.

Memories of Greenwich

I have fond memories of my time here, from the library study sessions with friends to unwinding around the open campus, playing football, and having discussions with lecturers.

When I first researched degrees, I knew I had several choices of which university to go to and tried to strike the right balance between a good, useful course that continued from my A-Levels and an attractive location. I knew Maritime Greenwich was a historic site and has a beautiful campus. Having graduated from here, I can safely say it was a good decision and I am glad not to have any regrets about my choice of study!

The course leaders had great insights and bought to life real world challenges of the 21st century, as well as significant events of the past. Their enthusiasm has inspired my interest in economics further and although nothing can fully prepare you for the practical world of work, it provides some important theoretical learnings and critical thinking skills which can be applied in knowledge-based jobs.

Life after Greenwich

One of the optional modules I found very interesting was business ethics. The module had a direct impact on my future as I went on to work in a graduate Corporate Responsibility Programme at RSA Group and then at The Princes’ Responsible Business Charity called ‘Business in the Community’.

Although my time in Corporate Responsibility was valuable and rewarding, I opted for a change after three years and I decided to focus on the world of technology and FinTech, which is an ever-growing industry. I work as a Technical Specialist/Analyst at a global software company and have over the years been picking up experience of how companies in the private sector operate with their own policies and protocols.

I have had roles as Corporate Responsibility Assistant, Data Analyst, Project Officer, Client Analyst and now Technical Support Specialist and my degree formed a good foundation to build experiences from.

My own experiences demonstrate the breadth of jobs that are available by studying Business Economics and that in itself is a good thing if you are not set on a particular profession. I still keep in touch with friends from the university who have had their own successes in the competitive jobs market. Business Economics and Greenwich provides a place where people with common interests can meet.
