Planning ahead to your studies
How do I track the progress of my offer?
You can find out the progress of your application by using our application tracker.
Depending on your course, we may invite you for an interview before we make our decision.
How many hours a week will I be studying?
If you’re registered on a full-time course, the time you spend studying each week should be roughly equivalent to a full-time job. This covers lectures, tutorials, workshops and time for independent study. Some courses (e.g. nursing and teaching) will have work placements built into the course.
If you are studying part-time, your hours should reduce in proportion with the number of modules you are studying.
To see how your course is split between taught hours and independent study, visit the course page on our website.
How do I fund my studies?
You can fund your studies in several ways.
Loans
If you are a UK student, you will probably be eligible for a student loan. International students may be able to access a loan in their home countries. For example, students from the USA may be eligible for Federal Loans.
Bursaries
We offer scholarships and bursaries, from support with travel costs and equipment to awards for elite sportspeople. Eligible new EU students will receive a discount on their first-year fees with our new EU Bursary.
Paid work
There are lots of opportunities for paid work in London and Kent. We recruit student ambassadors and offer opportunities through our and the Charlton Athletic Community Trust.
I am an international student. How do I apply for a visa?
Applying from overseas
You can apply for your visa as soon as you have a Confirmation for Acceptance of Studies (CAS) from us.
To issue you with a CAS, we need you to accept your offer and pay the deposit on your course.
You can submit your visa application online up to three months before your course starts. You will need to visit your local Visa Application Centre to submit your documents. (This may be in a neighbouring country.)
You may be invited to an interview to discuss why you wish to study in the UK. You will also be asked to submit evidence that you meet the financial requirements to study in the UK.
Visa applications from overseas
Applying from within the UK
If you meet certain conditions, you will be able to apply online for a Student Visa from within the UK.
As part of this, you will need to scan and upload some supporting documents and pay the relevant fees. (We can assist with scanning if you do not have access at home.)
If you have not provided biometric ID before in the UK, you will be asked to book an appointment at a UKVCAS Service Point.
EU Settlement Status
If you are an EU, EEA, or Swiss national, and you were living in the UK before the end of the transition period, you will need to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme to stay in the UK.
I am an international student. How do I pay my deposit?
You can pay the pre-registration deposit (£3,000) by or by bank transfer.
You’ll be sent a receipt from Western Union GlobalPay, and you can track the payment on the payment portal using the 'Track your payment' tab.
Once this is paid, you can begin the process of getting your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number, which is required for your Student Visa application.
You must pay your deposit by certain deadlines to get your CAS in time to begin - usually 2-3 weeks before your course starts. We publish these dates a few months before the start of each intake.
When should I apply for accommodation?
When you select the university as your firm choice or accept your offer, you'll get access to our Portal. From here, you can apply for accommodation in our halls.
If you apply for accommodation by late August (usually a week after results day), we can guarantee you a place in university halls as long as you meet some basic criteria.
Our accommodation promise (for Covid-19)
If you book accommodation for the 2021-22 session, you can cancel for any reason up to three weeks before your contract begins, and your deposit will be returned in full.
If the university becomes a completely virtual campus, you won’t need to pay for your room - provided your keys are returned and your room is vacated. We will hold your room exclusively for your return. If this occurs after 1 May, you can terminate your contract permanently.
