Aims
The aim of the module is for students to critically reflect on the responsibility of a (business) organisation, its different stakeholders, and their own potential role in it.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module a student will be able to:
1. Identify ethical issues and dilemmas in an organisational context
2. Understand fundamental concepts and theories in business ethics
3. Apply different positions of ethical reasoning to real life problems
4. Discuss controversies surrounding the social responsibility of business, e.g. relating to Corporate Social Responsibly (CSR), Responsible Innovation (RI), and surveillance capitalism
Indicative content
The module explores fundamental concepts and theories in business ethics, including theories of ethical reasoning and frameworks for managing integrity and sustainability.
Teaching and learning activity
Lectures, small/plenary group discussions, reading material, video clips, physical/online games, drama-based performances.
Assessment
Individual Essay: 100% weighting, 40% pass mark.
Learning Outcomes: 1 - 4.
Outline Details: The task requires students to apply theory to the practice of business ethics. 3000 words.
Formative Assessment: Student group drama performance on an ethical dilemma in an organisational context.
