Public transport to Medway

Bus

Most bus services in Medway are operated by Arriva. There is a service from Chatham bus station to the campus every 15 minutes most of the day stopping on the campus (Service 1), or just outside in Dock Road (Service 2). The journey normally takes between 5 and 10 minutes depending on traffic. These routes and others stopping close to campus are listed below. Trains

Train services are provided by , please refer to  for timetables. There are two stations for the campus Chatham and Gillingham. We recommend you alight at Chatham station and get one of the bus services listed below but if you prefer, the walk from Gillingham station is shorter and takes around 20 minutes. The quickest routes from London are 46 minutes from Victoria and 40 minutes from St. Pancras via the high-speed line. The journey from stations near to Avery Hill Campus requires a change at Dartford.

Cycling and walking to Medway

Cycling

Cycle routes
  • Medway Council have  of the area.
  • Cycling is not permitted through the Medway Tunnel.
Cycle parking
  • There is parking for 54 bikes spread across 3 covered cycle shelters in the centre of the campus either side of the Nelson Building. This includes space for 34 bikes in a gated compound with keypad access. The code is available from the Gatehouse.
  • Cycle hoops are provided for 10 bikes in Central Avenue near the Gatehouse.
  • The Drill Hall Library car park has a large number of covered bike spaces adjacent to the back wall.
  • Bicycles are parked at your risk. We do not accept liability, for any loss, destruction, damage or theft of cycles. We recommend you use a good quality 'D'-lock.
Facilities for cyclists
  • The Nelson Building has showers for cyclists. Female showers are on ground floor and male on the first floor.
  • Lockers are provided in both Nelson shower rooms.
  • The Pembroke building social space area on the ground floor also has lockers.
  • Lockers may be hired from the university .
  • A bicycle repair kit and pump are available to use at the Gatehouse.

Walking

There is a map provided from Gillingham station in the public transport section. This is a shorter walk than Chatham station.

The Dockside Outlet Shopping Centre is about a 10 minute walk 0.5 miles away the other side of Dock Road.

Driving to Medway

Medway Campus postcode is ME4 4TB.

The campus estate is shared with University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University. Each institution has its own parking areas. The main parking area for Çï¿ûÊÓƵ is located on the upper site. After exiting the Dock Road roundabout into North Road turn right into Central Avenue. We also have parking at the Jellicoe building and the Sports Hall on the lower site along North Road and off to the right.

Çï¿ûÊÓƵ car parks have 575 bays available for our students, staff and visitors by permit only. This includes 13 disabled bays. You must obtain a permit before you park, see permit types below. Permits are electronic apply here for a permit.

You can pay at the machine in coins (no change given), or using the  app quoting location code 99908. Registering for Paybyphone or purchasing a ticket from the machine does not qualify as a permit. The car park terms and conditions are displayed on signage. Parking Charge Notices are issued to vehicles parked in contravention of these.

Visitor parking

Visitors, including contractors, need to arrange parking through their host or project manager. Staff visiting from other campuses can book visitor parking using the . Staff permits for Greenwich and Avery Hill are accepted at Medway.

Alternatively scratch cards for guest parking can be purchased by departments from Transport, cost £30 for a book of 10.

Motorbikes and scooters

You do not need to get a permit or pay to park with a motorbike or scooter but you must use one of the designated motorcycle parking areas. These are located next to the Nelson Building and Pembroke North.

Medway Halls of Residence

The car park at the halls of residence has 43 spaces reserved for resident permit holders only.
